Is Pilates Right For You?

By: Mark Hall

Pilates had started out as only an exercise that would have been for the wealthy people to afford, due to the reason that a Reformer was used. This is a very expensive machine you would do the Pilates on. Joseph Pilates had designed this machine for many different movements in Pilates. Each of the movements would use your body weight for the resistance, and would offer the equal intensity throughout both of your sides for each and every movement, this would be working opposing muscles equally.

You might be asking, will Pilates be able to work on helping to strengthen your muscles? The answer is yes, it would do this without building your muscle bulk that the body builders would go for. The reason being that the movements do not need to be repeated so many times so that you would reap all of the full benefit, there would not be any bulky muscles to be building up. Rather than that, Pilates would lengthen and then tone your muscles. This actually would make them much smaller and much denser.

Would this type of exercise work if you have had injuries? The Pilates would be renowned for being able to help to prevent the injuries! Even those people who have already had the knee, back and joint injuries could find that their slow and very soothing movements of the Pilates would help to strengthen your muscles around the joints. This is a very low impact workout, and there would be no strains or pressure to be put onto your joints. This would minimize the risks of anyone injuring themselves.

Another good question would be, would the Pilates be able to improve your posture? Since Pilates would strengthen your core muscles of your abdomen and your lower back, your entire body will have a much better supported then before doing the Pilates. This could help someone that had done the Pilates workouts be able to walk taller and also hold themselves up straighter.

Would Pilates work in improving all your body’s system? Since it might seem very farfetched claims, you would need to think about all of the benefits of Pilates. It would strengthen your muscles along with trimming and toning the muscles. It is going to strengthen your core muscles that would support your spine along with the muscles that would surround your organs and be able to hold them firmly. Not only is your posture going to be improved, but so will your ab walls be stronger, it will offer even more support for the internal organs also.

People that do the Pilates would benefit from your deep breathing exercises along with being able to have controlled breathing and the movements. Your organs will have better support. Your breathing will be improved so that you will be able to give your bloodstream much more oxygen. By now you should realize how much Pilates will help your be able to improve your health.

You might wonder if Pilates will work for you if you are out of shape. The answer is yes! The great beauty of the Pilates would be that it does not take too long, or even would not be a grueling workout for you to see all the benefits. People that wouldn't have exercised in a very long time could start out with just doing 5 to 10 minutes of the Pilates at a time. This is because the strengthening benefits of the Pilates, even as a beginner could increase the amount of time that would be spent working out. Will the Pilates work for you? The best answer for this would be you trying it out for yourself.
